ImpoundLog

For tow companies with a storage or impound lot

Impound lot software for small tow companies, without the dispatch suite

ImpoundLog is impound lot management software for small towing companies that logs every vehicle on your storage lot: which space it sits in, who ordered the tow, what hold is on it, and when and to whom it left.

Free for one lot and 25 vehicles. No card, no dispatch module, no sales call.

What the phone rings about

Three questions, answered without walking the yard

“Is the silver Civic still here?”

Search by plate, VIN, make or color from any phone. The answer is the space number, not a walk across the yard.

“Can it go?”

Police hold, investigative hold, lien notice sent, auction eligible. A vehicle under an active hold can't be released by staff, only by the owner with a logged note.

“Who took it, and when?”

Every release carries the date and time, who it went to, and which login authorized it. It's there a year later when the storage bill is disputed.

The lot map

The whiteboard, except it's never wrong

Every space on your lot, with what's parked in it, how many days it's been there, and whether a hold is on it. Drivers drop a new tow into an open space from the phone. The office drags a vehicle to a new space when the yard gets shuffled, and the move goes into its history.

Partners see only their own vehicles on the list, not the map.

What it does

A tow yard inventory the whole shop can trust

Vehicle impound log from the truck

The driver logs plate, VIN, make, color, tow reason, requester and space from the phone at the gate, at 2 a.m. if that's when the tow comes in. No clipboard, no retyping in the morning, and the driver can fix their own entry for 24 hours.

Lot map: your impound lot inventory by space

Name your spaces the way they're painted (A1, A2, B1…) and every one shows what's parked in it. Drag a vehicle to a new space when the yard gets shuffled; the move is written to the vehicle's history.

Holds you cannot release by accident

Set a police or investigative hold at intake or later. Staff see it on the list, the map and the vehicle, and the release form refuses them. Only the owner can override, and the override note is stamped on the record.

Aging and lien reminders on the dashboard

Vehicles over 30 days, lien notices due, vehicles now eligible for auction. You record the date each notice went out; the app keeps the count so nothing sits earning nothing.

Partner lookup for the people who call you

Give the police department or the property manager a read-only login that shows only the vehicles they ordered towed: on the lot or released, space, hold, dates. Fewer calls asking if it's still there.

One vehicle, start to finish

The record builds itself while the lot does its day

  1. 1

    Tow-in

Driver logs it at the gate: plate, VIN, make, color, reason, who requested it, keys on lot, space.

  2. 2

    Hold

Office sets a police or investigative hold. The vehicle is flagged everywhere; staff can't release it.

  3. 3

    Notice

Day 30 shows up on the dashboard. The office records the lien notice date; later, auction eligible.

  4. 4

    Release

Owner's name, date and time, authorized by whom. Or auctioned, or scrapped. The space frees up on the map.

Who logs in

Who sees what on the lot

Owner
Sets up lots and spaces, invites everyone, sees and changes anything, and is the only one who can delete a record or override a hold.
Lot manager
The office. Logs intakes, moves vehicles, sets and clears holds, records releases, keeps the requester list. Can't delete or manage logins.
Driver
Logs the tow-in from the lot on a phone and can fix that entry for 24 hours. Sees the whole lot and map to find an open space.
Partner
A police department or property manager. Read-only, and only the vehicles towed at their request.

What it replaces

Three things that go in the dumpster

  • The paper intake ticket and the whiteboard of space numbers
  • The Excel or Google Sheets impound inventory the office updates when it gets around to it
  • The impound module of a $109-a-month dispatch suite, for a shop that only needs the lot log

Questions tow operators ask

Before you sign up

Is this towing impound software or a dispatch program?
Only the lot. ImpoundLog is the impound and storage lot log: intake, space, hold, release, partner lookup. There's no dispatching, no invoicing and no driver GPS. If you run a one-lot shop and only need to know what's on the lot, that's the point.
Does it stop a release when there's a police hold?
Yes. A vehicle under a police or investigative hold can't be released by a driver or lot manager; the release form refuses it and says why. The owner can override with a note, and that note is written into the vehicle's history with the owner's name and the time.
Can my drivers log the tow-in from the truck?
Yes. The Crew and Yard plans include driver logins. A driver opens ImpoundLog on their phone at the gate, logs the vehicle and drops it into an open space on the map. They can correct their own entry for 24 hours; after that only the office can.
How does the partner login work for the police department?
On the Yard plan you invite a read-only Partner login and link it to a requester, say the city police department. That login sees only vehicles towed at their request: on the lot or released, which space, what hold, and the release date. Nothing else, and they can't change anything.
Does it track storage days and lien notices?
It counts days on the lot for every vehicle and flags the ones past 30 days with no lien notice recorded. You enter the date you sent the notice and set the hold to lien notice sent or auction eligible when your state's rules say so. The app records; the compliance stays with you.
Can I export the log?
Yes. The whole vehicle log, or just the releases, downloads as CSV from the app at any time. It opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
What's free?
The Solo plan is free for good: one lot, up to 25 vehicles on the lot at a time, one login. Upgrade when you want driver logins or a lot manager.
